Recently I have lost approx. 48 lbs, have drenching night sweats, diarrhea, left side abdominal pain, and low grade fever. My doc sent me to a GI person, and I was sent for blood work, an abdominal ultrasound, pap smear, colonoscopy, upper/lower endoscopy, and finally, a CT scan. The Ct scan showed swollen lymph nodes in my groin, of which I had the largest removed. After being treated for the large seroma I developed after surgery, I don't know what my next step should be. The surgeons have ruled out infection, lymphoma, etc. Should I now see an internist? Do I go back to the GI doc, or my regular provider? Do I need further testing, such as a chest xray maybe? I am not sure if I should be concerned about these nodes or not, though I must admit I am! Could I still have some sort of cancer? I am going for a skin biopsy on my legs in Oct, as I have a rash that has been there for years (was told it was eczema years ago.) Any help and /or advice anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there!

There are possible causes of swollen lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are part of the immune system and they generally swell in response to nearby infection or presence of malignancy. Your bloodwork do not show any sign of malignancy and infection, but I cannot say for sure.

It is not bad to seek the help of an internist for this matter. Your complex history might mean that you may need to undergo series of tests again. I recommend you continue the treatment with your current doctors as they understand your condition better and I am sure they are doing their best to treat your condition.

I hope I helped, and get well soon..
