What later problems can occur from a baby being born not breathing for the first 2 - 3 minutes? Baby was dark purple and not breathing, doc said baby was born too quickly and was not ready to breathe, was rescusitated and is fine now. He is a full term baby, just over 9 lbs. Mother and son were discharged less than 24hrs after birth - so all is seemingly OK. Anything specific you would recomend to be aware of or to watch for?
TIA

Dear Angayla17,
Sixty-three years ago, I was born blue, and not breathing. The doctor told my mother that I would not live through the night. Grandma held, wrestled and rubbed me all night. I made it! I was a very active outdoor child, ran a lot, rode horses, climbed trees, played baseball. Nothing stopped me from a normal development except... I most always had croup or pneumonia each winter..(still do)....weak lungs?? Just keep alert to the child's health needs, breathing concerns, and allow him to be active, and normal.
