Last summer I spent 3 weeks in the hospital (2 seperate stays), for a severe infection. It was diagnosed as severe cellulitis from being bitten by a cat. I had to eventually have surgery. They surgically cut open my arm to clean out the infection and allow it to drain. Days later I went back to surgery to close the wound and put in a drain. I went home on IV anitbotics through a PIC line. After over 5 weeks I was finally deemed cured. The question that I have is that after 10 months now I still have pain and muscle weakness in that arm. Is there any residual effects from this type of illness (such as the pain and weakness that I am experiencing)? If so, will it be permanent and is there any treatment for this. Thank you for any reply.

Nicky,
So sorry you had to go through such a terrible experience with the infection. It is impossible to say over the internet whether your pain is related to the infection, but your surgery and infection did sound pretty extensive, so I would say it is a definite possibility. This is something you should talk to your doctor about and you can come up with some sort of treatment. Best of luck!
