I'm a rather healthy sixteen year old. I'm 5'6" and 122 lbs., I eat a mostly vegetarian diet - maybe chicken once every few weeks. I run about two miles every other day or so, I ride horses once or twice a week, I swordfight almost daily, and I swim several times a week.

I eat when I'm hungry and sleep when I'm tired. I don't smoke, and I do everything within my power to avoid places where I'd be exposed to it. I love water, and drink quite a bit of it daily. I take pretty good care of myself.

But I have a problem. I black out often. Mostly when I'm standing up after crouching, or if I'm running when it's hot out, my vision will go black and I'll get really dizzy. I've gotten so used to it, people hardly ever realize what happened. I just lean against something for support until my vision clears; sometimes I go down on a knee.

But it's getting worse. Almost daily now, I'll get a fuzzy connection between my brain and the rest of me, and sometimes I've passed out completely and woken up on the ground. It's not just when I've been in a position that restricts blood flow anymore; it happens when I'm standing, when I'm walking, when I'm sitting. It happens when it's cold, when it's hot, when it's comfortable. It seems to be random.

Today, after nearly blacking out all the way several times in a row, I took my blood pressure four times and found the average to be 99 over 61 - whatever that means.

I'm afraid to drive or go running by myself when I don't know what makes this happen. Can you help me?

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Sorry to hear of your blackout spells. Its fortunate you haven't hurt your self during one of these if you fall , drive etc. Do your parents know aoubt these spells? It's important they do so you can be see by your Dr. for testing to find the cause. Heres a link for some possible causes. Be seen by your Dr. , this is nothing to try and guess about. Good Luck to you and let us know here on the forum:smile:

I am also having this problem, the past 4 months I have been a vegetarian and Im getting light headed when ever I stood up or over exerted myself. But now Im starting to get black outs.

Im 16, and I dont have a doctor, or any health coverage..

when I started to be a vegetarian I ate only a salad for dinner everyday and went hungry, I lost 100 pounds in 4 months and I know it was unhealthy but I had no choice.

Any suggestions how to stop the blackouts?

Please do not take anything your Dr. and parents don't know about. Let us know how your doing.

If you have health insurance I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor. I had the same thing happen to me last summer, and talked to my doctor about it. Mine never got as bad as yours, but she told me that it was fairly common when going from a sitting/bent over position to standing. She said it could be dehydration or just low blood pressure. Best of luck!
