Hi doc, I had a question about my prostatitis. I'm a 26 yr old male and am not very sure how I got prostatitis in the first place. About 10 weeks ago I was diagnosed with gonorrhea. I know exactly how and where I caught it, and it was one week before my diagnosis. I was given an 250mg injection of ceftriaxone and 1000mg oral tablets of Zithromax, both of which are highly effective against gonorrhea, and zithromax is also effective against chlamydia. Since then, i've been tested three separate times with urine amplification testing and have been negative for gonorrhea and chlamydia. Is it possible that my prostatitis is caused by gonorrhea despite the fact that I took the required medication against it and my urine amplification tests were negative? If not gonorrhea or possibly chlamydia, what else can be causing my infection?

My urologist said that my urine was not infected but my prostate secretion was, but he did not do a culture b/c he said it is difficult to establish the type of bacteria causing the infection. He prescribed 6 weeks of Trimetoprim (Bactrim) and told me to see him after the six weeks are up.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

p.s. I currently have a g/f and we have ONLY engaged in protected (condom) sex, except for oral sex. Do I pose any danger to her?
