I took cipro tablets and cipro eardrops for a bad ear infection about 5 months
ago. About a week after finish the meds, I started suffering with major depression with anxiety to the point that I thought about killing myself, Now
5 months later I still have the depression and anxiety, But it seems to be getting better, I never suffered from depression before I took this drug.
Is it possible that cipro caused this. I am a 59 year old male with good health.
Any reply on this problem would be much appreciated.

I cut this out from a health library, side effects they claim none. but there is the exception to the rule. has anyone in your
family suffered from depression, but when all is said and done, if you think this depression is a side effect or related to the medication CIPRO
call your doctor anyways.
p.s. don't give up without a fight. i envy you
i speak it with a grin hahaha, try not to be
depressed today o k , remember never forget your
the greatest person you ever met.

Believe me I know what you are going through. I had three courses of cipro this last winter and now I am left with nervousness and depression. I have an e mail friend who is experiencing the same thing. I have no interest in anything I used to love and feel like someone has stole my happiness. I used to be an active fun loving person and now I don't recognize myself. I take Ativan for the anxiety/nerves but the doctor does not want me to be on that for very long. I am headed to a psychiatrist in a week to see if they can help me find something that will work for my depression. My last cipro was in late February 2008 and I am still suffering with no end in site. I totally understand. God help anyone who takes this drug.

Depression is one of those disorders which most people face in there life as some stage for one reason or the other. If it's children the pressure of studies gets over their head and if it's adults the pressure of work attracts depression. Rather than going on drugs, one should look for the reason behind there problem . Keeping your self busy and changing the schedule also helps sometimes to get over stress and depression.
The best way to get over stress, depression and anxiety is to take a break from your regular schedule, go out, and take good sleep. This helps in clearing the mind and try consulting a specialist who can suggest you as how you can get over your problem. There are various prescription drugs to get over anxiety and depression, but these should only be used in accordance with the instruction of a physician and going on anti depressants should be the last option.

Well not always depression is caused by issues. Some diseases and medications can also cause depression.

Prescription drugs can park side effects. The fact that you have had a history of depression before you took Cipro might be a contributing factor for the problem. Your case is subjective. Other details like what treatment you got to relive you of depression previously may be important to determine the cure for the present problem. I advise you seek professional help for the problem.
