Since knee suregry 5 months ago, I have experienced excruciating muscle pain throughout my entire body. The only relief I get is from taking Prednisone (currently 10mg/day). I realize I cannot continue this medication indefinitely and would like to know if there is another, safer med that might work. I have tried tapering off and in fact have reduced dosages from 40mg/day to my current level. Further reduction brings back the pain, which shows up first in my fingers-hand-wrist area. Another, long-shot question is could a surgical metal anomaly discovered in my knee with a follow up MRI, be responsible?

hi my name is John and I just want to let you know b4 I give you any advice is that I am NOT a DR. and this is just a suggestion

one thing that I know works for joint pain (thats what it sounds like) may be something like acupressure or acupuncture to relive joint pain
one other thing ask your DR. about Osgood-slaters syndrome its a swelling of the joint syndrome and It normally hits kids but it can flair up in adults if you are very active and it can hurt like hell but it wont hurt to ask!

good luck with all

Osgood-Schlatter disease affects adolescents who are active in sports - it's not actually a disease of the knee joint, but of the tibia (the shinbone). The fact that prednisone helps your symptoms, suggests that the cause is inflammatory. There may be a rheumatoid/autoimmune cause behind this, although it is of course impossible to say given the very limited information. I recommend you talk to your doctor about this - you need a diagnosis, other than just muscle pain.
