I recently underwent a Pulmonary Function Test and the doctor that read the results consulted with my Family Physician and between the two of them decided that I needed to see an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. I have already been diagnosed with COPD and the reason for the Pulmonary Function Test was to determine if oxygen is needed since I have been experiencing shortness of breath. I also have CAD and diabetes. The nurse at my Family Physicians office stated that they want to check my Vocal Chords. What exactly would they be looking for? How does your vocal chords effect your difficulty with breathing?

Hi rdc4176,

Welcome to the forum. Maybe they want to know also if some of your SOB is caused by a dysfunction in your vocal cords. Vocal cords can also effect SOB because of not closing properly, growths etc. They may be better able to treat your SOB by evaluating both your COPD and vocal cords. Good Luck:smile:

Good info Purple Lady! Vocal chords are probably underdiagnosed as cause for shortness of breath.
