I had a 2 minute apnea event last night after starting a new sleeping pill. Is that dangerous? Any idea how long you can go without breathing in your sleep before it could hurt you? I haven't heard of anyone who quit breathing in their sleep for any longer than 1 minute.

Thank you.

Hi,

Really you should report this to your Dr. who prescribed your sleeping pill who knows your medical history. Maybe he might order sleep studies for you to determine if you have sleep apnea or evaluate your medications.

I have sleep apnea (already have been tested). This data about the apnea event lasting 2 minutes came from the software download. However the OSA events were higher after taking this sleeping pill than on the study but the hypopnea events weren't bad. But what concerned me was my apnea event averaging for 2 minutes after use of this sleeping pill.

All; the more reason to discuss with your physician.

I used to have obstructive sleep apnea, and I was told that sleeping pills (or any meds that relax your muscles and/or makes you drowsy) will increase the amount and length of apneas.
