Hello,
Ever since I was a teenage boy I would be stricken with tonsillitis once or twice a year. Now that I'm approaching thirty I still get it, this year alone I have gotten it three times. Since this such a recurring infection that has happen to me over the past 15 years would it be wise to get a tonsillectomy . A few doctors I have spoken to have said it's probably not necessary since antibiotics can cure it. The thing is though I cannot afford to be sick anymore or moreless I'm tired of being sick.

Sounds to me like you are a good candidate for tonsillectomy. You'll need to talk to an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist about this; he will explain the risks (low) and expectations of the procedure. Good luck, keep us posted!

Tonsils one of your first line of defences. I might guess you are allergic to something ? Do you smoke ? Drink ? How is health overall otherwise? Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day? Take in much refined foods? Exposed to any chemicals? Just something to ask yourself. Have a good day.

welcome zfixitman,

While its true your tonsils are just glands, sometimes they need to come out, esp. if you keep getting sick with tonsillitis. An ENT would know this, unless you want to wait as some people do until they just practically dry up and waste away. Alot of times too these glands don't bother you as much when you get older, why I don't know. I guess its all a matter of how serious your infections are and how much your willing to put up with.

Good Luck,
