About a month ago, when at a friends house, I was taking a shower and knocked a can of shaving cream off of the side of the tub, and where does it land? On me, of course. (you can laugh now.) Anyways, the bottom rim hit me above my ankle. It really hurt for about 3 hours while I was trying to sleep, and it still hurt the next day. About 2 days later, I had a nice bruise, and when I touched it, it mainly only hurt in the spot right where the can hit. It's been a month now, and the bruise is gone, but when I touch the same small spot, there's a sharp pain. I haven't noticed any swelling, but I was wondering if bruises really can last for a month, or if I need to get this looked at, or if I'm just overreacting and leave it alone?

i always thought that a bruise would stay for as long as needed for the skin to heal. I usually get loads of bruises, on my legs especially, and half the time i have no idea where they came from. I had a bruise on my knee that i did my 'kneeing' a sink (strange as it my sound!) and it lasted for aaaages! I think it just depends on how much you hurt yourself and where abouts it catches - especially if youve bruised a part of your skin/body which usually is covered and doesnt expereince that kind of injury.

I wouldnt worry too much about it (i wouldnt anyway) but if you are concerned its always bemneficial to see a doctor about it no matter how silly it may be - just to ease your mind and to stop you worrying.

I noticed that when I get bruises during my period, they stay on my skin for a really long time. Sometimes it even takes months before it completely goes away. I'm not sure if it's normal too.
