In March of 2005, I slipped and fell resulting in severe back pain. After doing injections in the back, physical therapy, muscle relaxers, hydrochodon, 800 mg ibuphrofen.....in September 2005, I had a diskectomy. This was not by choice of my neurosurgeon. He had wanted to do a spinal fusion, however, Worker's Compensation refused. He wanted to get me pain free as soon as possible so he chose the diskectomy.
Before the diskectomy, I was hunched over with such severe back pain. Right thighe & leg pain was minimal.
After surgery, the back pain subsided but the leg pain is severe. I went back through the injections and physical therapy....no success.
Now, almost two years later, I have had enough. I can't live like this anymore. The thighe/leg pain, numbness , tingling and spasms are unbearable. I have three doctors who state I should have a spinal fusion done. I am hesitant because the first surgery just made things worse. I'm scared to death to have this done and just thinking about it gets me emotionaly upset.
I'm in my 40's and can't imagine a future.....
Is there no other option than spinal fusion? Nothing available that is less evasive????
