Hello, I'm 19 years old. I have a dark pink birthmark on my thigh. It's about 3 inches long and 3 inches wide. I have had it since birth, obviously. I can tell it's very thin because when i rub it, it disappears for a split second. My doctor actually expected it to go away as I grew. I know it sounds selfish but I'm soooo self conscious over it. It really bothers me, not many people have ever seen it. When they do they think its a bad bruise. I would love to get it removed with laser surgery but what are my chances of it being a success and are there any bad side effects that could occur from it. I guess what I'm getting at is if it's worth it. What should I do?? Thanks alot!!

Hi Redsox,
Laser surgery is one option for removing some birthmarks, but not all of them. It depends on the type of your birthmark (size, shape, location, vascularity, etc) as to whether laser surgery would work for you. Therefore you need to see a doctor first hand who can tell you whether this is an option for you. As with any procedure, there also risks involved, so you'll want to talk to your doctor about that too before you make a decision. Best of luck!
