My 15 year old nephew is having surgery tomorrow. As I understand it he will undergo an 8-10 hour surgery to place rods at his spine because it is not keeping up with his growth. He is starting to 'hunch' over and has considerable pain because of it. What might this condition be called and it's likely treatment in this surgery.
Thanks !

Maybe its scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a side-to-side curvature of the spine which can cause a person to be bent over to one side.
Another thought is kyphosis which is an excessive rounding of the back which can cause a person to be hunced over. These are just some condition to look into. You can preform a search using the search bottom above. Best of luck to your nephew!

Hi,
I agree with YankeeBeckham. The most likely scenario is scoliosis. Of course, your nephew or his parents will be able to tell for sure.
