I am currently taking the antibiotic Macrobid as a preventative for bladder infections... if I start eating probiotic yogurts is that going to offset or affect my Macrobid's effectiveness? Do you recommend I eat probiotics?

This is a good question for you to ask your physician.

Hi Walpert. According to this study: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/12/081217190443.htm probiotics will not reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics. You should still ask your doctor though.

Probiotics are live microorganisms (in most cases, bacteria) that are similar to beneficial microorganisms found in the human gut. They are also called "friendly bacteria" or "good bacteria." Probiotics are available to consumers mainly in the form of dietary supplements and foods. They can be used as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).
