I was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff after a fall. An arthrogram and MRI was done. When the dye was injected for the arthrogram, the Doctor and I both watched it leak out and he said that I had a tear. The MRI also showed a large tear, apwhere there should have been tendon. Surgery was done 2 weeks ago but the surgeon said that he could only find a small tear with some irritation. My question is how could the MRI and arthrogram be so off or did my doctor miss something.. I started passive physical therapy but the therapist and I feel a catching or a popping when he moves my shouler and that pop is painful. I'm very curious how an MRIcould show one thing and the surgeon couldn't find it. Thanks

It's possible. Surgery is not a 100% accurate science (neither is radiology), and sometimes there is discrepancy between radiological (MRI) findings and surgical findings. Please ask your surgeon for further explanation.
