swollen knee and foot for no apparent reason

I have been having swelling on and off for the past 4 months in my right knee and right foot. I have high blood pressure and elevated sugar level and elevated cholesterol. I am on 3 different medications-one for each. Is the swelling a symptom of something more serious?
