I'm 31 years old. In March, I noticed a lump on my right side. . felt like the edge of my rib had a lump on it. I went to my PCP who said I had a lipoma on my 9th or 10th rib on the end of it. He said we'd keep an eye on it to see if it grew. I never had any pain with it, it just hurt if I messed with it too much. After a couple of weeks, I started worrying that it was cancer. I asked my PCP to do further tests or remove it. . he said to get a 2nd opinion. I went to a plastic surgeon (hoping to have whatever it was removed). He said it was not a lipoma, that it felt like my rib had a notch on it or a lump. He didn't know what it was but he ordered a CT and CXR. Both of those came back negative, no findings. Now, I'm starting to have more pain with it. It also seems as if I'm getting a similar "spot" on my left side (there was a lump there too but it was very, very small). My entire back is starting to hurt, about mid back down. The pain isn't as bad if I don't slouch, it also improves if I take ibuprofen and relax. I do, however, still get sharp pains occasionally down by those areas. I'm not sure where to go with this.

I do have psoriasis, and have had it for about 10 years now. I also have psoriasis patches in proximity to the "lumps".. and I've had those areas, that will never fully resolve, for about 4 years. I'm wondering if maybe I have psoriatic arthritis. But everything I've read says that it should be intercostal muscles, at the top of the ribcage, not the last few ribs at the tips. My psoriasis gets really bad under stress, and it has definitely flaired at the moment (see next paragraph).

I, also, have been in the process of fixing up my home to sell. I've definitely done a lot of strenuous work. I can't tell if the muscle soreness is from that, or arthritis.

I have an appointment with my PCP next week. I"m not sure what to really address with him. On one hand, I'm worried that I have some type of rib tumor or cancer and the pain is just muscle strain. On the other hand, maybe its just psoriatic arthritis and I need to ask that to be addressed.

I need some opinions. . thank you in advance for your help.

I'm happy that you have seen your primary care physician, and a plastic surgeon, and even had a CT done - and that you've scheduled another appointment with your primary care physician. I'm afraid I can't offer you any diagnosis suggestions as these are the sort of problems that need to be assessed firsthand and physically examined. I'll just say that I'm satisfied with your plan to see your PCP about this again, and if you feel it could be related to your psoriasis flares, maybe talk to your psoriasis doctor and ask for his/her input on this. Sorry I can't be of more help on this. Keep us posted on the developments. Good luck!
