I had a cerebral embolization done 9 days ago on my unruptured aneurysm, located in the right posterior communicating artery. Since I came out of the angio suite I have had a headache. It is located behind my right eye and goes to the top of my head down to the base of my skull. But again, only on the right side. Sometimes I get what may be described as a brain attack. Very painful and feels like a lot of pressure, that lasts for about 10 minutes. This happens on a day to day basis. My Doctor said the headaches should not be related to the coiling. The first 2-3 days, yes, but no more. I have a history of migraines, but ALWAYS on the left. I am also hypotensive, so I've been drinking a lot of fluid, including Gatorade.
Is there any way that my body is rejecting the coils?
Tylenol eases the continuous headache, but it never goes away. Esgic Plus, which I have for my "regular" migraines, won't touch the brain attacks. Any suggestions? :'(
Thanks

Persistent headaches should not result from coiling. However, each one of us is a different individual and may react differently to treatments. Furthermore, I don't know the details of your embolization procedure. You have a history of migraines -- I don't suppose it's inconceivable that your cerebral vessels are more irritable than the next person's, and perhaps your cerebral arteries are still recovering from the irritation caused by the procedure and this may be causing the prolonged symptoms. Maybe just give it some more time and see if the symptoms gradually resolve. Most importantly, ask your own neurosurgeon/endovascular surgeon, and trust his judgment. If the pain persists, you might want to talk to a neurologist to find a suitable remedy. Let us know how it goes!
