Hi. I received results from a thyroid CT Scan yesterday and they found a 6cm mass in my thyroid. They referred to me another doctor where they made me an appointment in a month! 7 years of complaining. 2 undiagnosed arrythmia's and years of telling them that it specifically feels like I am swallowing what started as a marble and I now describe as a meatball. I have been told however my thyroid is fine and the mass isn't what is causing the other problems. Well, I am exhibiting all the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. I have lost over 30 lbs in less than 90 days. I am uncharacteristically irritable, jitters/shakes, swelling in my neck that causes me to lose my voice and constant sweats. However my blood work is fine. They just seem so casual about it. Like you have this 6cm mass. No biggie even though you have been telling us this for years. Can you offer me any insight at all? I can't wait another month! I have now lost my voice which usually returns in a few days when it seems to flare up. Well it flared up. I lost my voice. And haven't gotten it back. It's been 10 days. Please, any advice you can give is greatly appreciated

I can understand your not wanting to wait a month with your symptoms. What kind of dr. they refer you to. Can you get a sooner appointment? I would think they would do a biospy next to determine its pathology. And I would hope the sooner the better. Maybe a second opinion is in order.

Hi Purple98Lady. Thank you so much for your response. I have been talking to my family doctor all of these years about this. I do adore him and think he is a good doctor and have totally trusted his advice. Afterall he has been our family doctor for more than 10 years. They referred me to an endocrinologist for "additional evaluation". But for what no one will tell me. My family doctor is the one that ordered the CT Scan. He told me oh yes I feel it. It's probably Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Which after researching I began to have doubts because everything I read indicated that that causes HYPO not Hyper. And being I had experienced no weight gain I found it highly unlikely. My family dr. gave me the CT results. He said and I quote yeah we got your results. You have a 6cm mass. Probably benign. Refer you to a specialist. When I asked more questions, he couldn't answer. I am guessing you are right. I should get a second opinion. And being my insurance doesn't require any referrals I can call and make my own appointment. Do you agree with me seeing an Endocrinologist though? Should I start there? Your opinion is appreciated. Thank you again for your time. I just didn't understand the "casual" approach. 6cm mass on anyone anywhere seems like something that isn't exactly "casual". I don't want to seem paniced. Because I am not. Frustrated though is an understatement!

Yes the right doctor being an endocrinologist. As for the mass I would be paniced as well and want it removed pronto, to be sure its benign before it gets larger and causes more symptoms. Try for a sooner appointment , if not maybe make another one with a different endo if you can get sooner. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
