View Full Version : late period with copper iud and negative pregnancy tests

hi,
Ive had a copper iud in for over a year now and have had no problems until recently. Last month my period only lasted two days and was very light (but i didnt complain as the iud normally makes it painful and heavy), but this month it is MIA and has been for three weeks now.
Ive taken two pregnancy tests and both have come up negative.
Im wondering if this sounds serious or if its normal to miss a period every now and then.
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,

Hi!
I think the best thing for you to do is to visit your doctor, if possible, the one who helped you get that IUD. I've read that copper IUDs do cause increased bleeding but haven't read anything on missing your periods. I did find out that one of the risks/complications to having an IUD are menstrual problems so it really would be best for you to see your doctor.
