I have 2 questions. I have a 6 month old boy and he was diagnosed in utero with an enlarged right kidney. It was closely monitored and has been continued to be monitored as his Mag2 scan showed they were functioning 50/50.
A week ago he developed a high fever and diarrhea, after 24 hours he was deteriorating and taken to emergency where they rehydrated him and took a specimen. Turns out he had salmonella. How is this possible for him to get this when he was fully breastfed??
He has had diarrhea for a week. The other day I took him for a repeat ultrasound on his kidney. The lady had to double check her results as no matter which way she measured it she could not get the past measurements, which had been the same right throughout. He had a scan done 4 weeks prior to this, and it turns out that from this latest one that the dam of fluid has gone down 7mm.
I don't know if this is a silly question, but do you think that there is possibly a connection with the 2. Could the fact that he was dehydrated have led to the decrease in the size of the kidney?? I am thrilled it is improving without surgery, but surprised that it has suddenly started to fix itself from 4 weeks ago.

Heres a link regarding breast milk:

Glad the kidney seems so improved but its best to ask his Dr. this question. Good Luck

Does this mean that breast milk in some cases can cause salmonella??? How do you think it happens? Is it that the mother has salmonella herself?? How does it get into the breast milk???

Thank you for these 2 articles, I have fully read them both. I am still baffled though as to HOW salmonella can get into the breast milk. Was the breast milk stored, expressed milk? Would the mother have had to have eaten something contaminated herself??? Can she carry the germ without herself becoming ill??? I am still confused. I guess I will probably never find the answer to this though.

Thank you for the link to the whole article. I have never worked with cattle myself, lol, but I guess it shows anything is possible really.
