Hi and welcome to the forum

What kind of port do you have a Port_a_Cath, picc line , P.A. S Port etc. While I don't know your answer I do know with ports and lines they do pre flushes to check the patency of your line and flushes post too. Some they even take pressures etc. Good question and good luck.

Purple98lady...........

Hi I posted this for my mother and I called her to ask wich one she had and she told me it is a Barth Port A Cath and they did not flush it afterwords. She was wondering if it does the same effect if it goes into the soft tissue rather thant he bloodstream and also what can be an outcome with it being done wrong and it being is the soft tissie rather than the bloodstream can that hurt her?
Thanks for any info I tried a serch on it and I am having no luck at all

My educated guess would be that the IVIG is still effective and will not cause any harm. I'm not an expert on this stuff though.

Hi again, please read this regarding extravasation for nonvesicant and vesicant agents. Your nurse I'm sure will determine if the port is operating right before any infusion is started. Depending on the infusing agent the patient could feel pain, burning and swelling in which case the nurse would stop the infusion and call the physician. Hope this helps.
