Quadriplegia and a Sex Life

I'm a C6-7 Quadriplegic, and I use a Cathater 24/7 because of no Bladder Control. I get an occasional erection, but cannot maintain it very long. I recently had a serious Urinary Infection, had IV Antibiotics for 2 weeks, plus ESWL to crush a kidney stone. Erections have not returned, but the Doctor gave me 6 free samples of Cialis 20mg. Is it possible to have Intercourse with the Catheter still in, or must it be removed?? If it can be done while the catheter remains in place, Please Explain Procedure? Will ejaculate plug up the catheter or will it fall back into the bladder, to be passed out with urine through the catheter?? My spinal cord injury took place at age 16, I'm now 55, and no one, Doctors or Nurses, ever discussed or explained my sexual options.

Sorry to hear that the health care professionals near you never discussed about your sexual options. I looked for information about having sex while wearing an indwelling catheter. According to some sites, it is still possible to have penetrative sex even with an indwelling catheter. If you will be wearing a condom, it should go over the catheter. The urine bag should be emptied first. Some websites do not recommend having sex when an indwelling catheter is in place because movements may cause he inflated balloon in the bladder to dislodge and may lead to problems.
Try to seek the opinion of your doctor regarding this. Ask him about other catheter types like suprapubic catheter or intermittent catheterization. Patients with suprapubic catheter say that it is a lot better for sex.

With the catheter bent along the penis then the condom over is exactly how alot of quads do have sexual intercourse. When long term cath is need some also have a supra pubic cath, one inserted through the abdomin, this allows free movement of the penis and sounds like a better choice. By all means discuss this with your physicain. Ask him outright. Good Luck.
