My husband just had a biopsy of a nodule in his lung and the results came back inconclusive. He is having a PET Scan tomorrow then they want him to have a lymph node biopsy. He is only 43 years old and has the following symptoms: shortness of breath, fatique, weakness and swollen lymph node + a lump in his lung. He has never smoked or been around any dangerous materials. What are the chances that it is lung cancer and why would the biopsy come back inconclusive?

Hi tosche,
I'm sorry to hear about what your husband is going through. I'm in no position to say what the chances are that he has lung cancer, but never smoking does not preclude someone from getting lung cancer. Cancer is one of those things that you really don't want to misdiagnosis, and having a correct, specific diagnosis is important in initiating the right treatment, so the doctors probably couldn't make a specific diagnosis from the first test, so they're running more tests to make sure what he has, one way or the other. Please keep us updated with what's going on and let us know if you have any further questions.
