Dear dr.

I had a simple knee surgery to repair the extensor mechinism in my right knee, during surgery they put a torniquiet on my quidricept which i understand is a normal procedure, but now 3 months after the surgery im loseing extensive muscle mass in my quadracepts, i had an emg and nerve conduction study showing that a 12" long nerve that feeds my vastis medialis and another muscle right next to it is severly damaged from a compression injury and that only one of my quidricepts is working, i asked my ortho surgeon what now and he says their is nothing that can be done that my muscles will just waste away and i will have one muscle left and maybe some scar tissue, my question is can this be repaired or is their any way to save my leg and muscles? I just cant beleive that they can reattach limbs and they work but they cant fix my leg, i still have some mass left and i dont want it to get to a point that if it can be fixed and my doctor dont know about a specific procedure that my leg is to far gone, any advice would help!!!

Hello,

Thank you for your question. It's not necessary to post the same question on multiple boards - we do review all boards for new questions, although we can't always answer all questions - but you are welcome to post a short reminder after a week or two.

I'm happy to inform you that Dr. Sinuhe has answered your question, but he is traveling right now so he hasn't been able to connect to the internet. Hang tight!
