My husband is an avid fan of ice hockey league(NHL) although we're not living in a country where ice snow could not be found, he was very into it and he love the game so much.Recently, he came acrossed with the news about the death of very young player, Alexie Cherepanov. He had a cardiac arrest during the game. Imagine! he is only 19 year old..and the cause of his death is cardiac arrest? He has bright future ahead of him, young and talented... and then suddenly it was lost.Usually the cause of the death is cardiac arrest. Usually the cause of deat of a lot of teenagers are accidents, drug abused, and suicide, but him, cardiac arrest? The cause of the death is actually the shocking part. Eventhough, I'm not a hockey fan, I felt shocked and cannot believe with what happen.Curiously, I try to research his biography. I read in the article of NHL, http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=386600, Alexei Cherepanov had heart problems and probably should not have been allowed to play in a game in which he collapsed and died, a regional investigator suggested. Cherepanov, who died Monday during the game apparently had chronic ischemia, a medical condition when not enough blood gets to the heart or other organs. So, the medical term of the cause of his death is Chronic Ischemia. The first thing that comes in my mind when we say ischemia is that, there is decrease of blood supply, therefore there will be lack of oxygen and lack of oxygen causes the death of tissues, which is very fatal, because all our organs needs oxygen...simple pathophysiology, with a great impact.I, myself could not believe why a man with heart problems engage in an activity that consumed a lot of oxygen.. I learned in my college days, that these kind of patients, should need a close monitor and should take into consideration what kind of activities they were into, because it will have a great impact on their health status. There are questions that bothering in my mind, is there a negligence happened?Does Cherepanov knew he has a heart problem?I think I'll just wait what the investigators will say on the following days. I hope I can get a clear answers with my questions.

Very interesting. It's such a tragedy when a young person dies suddenly.
