My father who is 75, had a pacemaker recently installed due to irregular heartbeat. He is now experiencing extreme anxiety and dizzy spells. He has fainted three times, twice before the pacemaker and now once after the pacemaker. When they take his blood pressure and his vital signs, they are stable, but every time the anxiety goes away, he feels very weak. What could be wrong? I am frustrated because I wish I could do something for him, but I canīt. Please Help Doctor Joshua!

Hi deshky,
I'm sorry to hear about your father's problem. Personally, I don't have a pacemaker, but I have an abnormally slow heart rate, so I've been known to pass out from time to time. I know how frightened and worried you must be. Irregular heartbeats can have a big affect on how the heart can pump blood. If not enough blood is getting to the brain, it can cause fainting due to lack of oxygen, but there are many reasons that can cause this. Your father is very lucky to have you supporting him. Best of luck!
