I am a 26 year old male, over weight, white. I have some kind of sleep disorder. It has a combination of symptoms, first I cannot get to sleep untill I am compleatly exhausted. Meaning I start to get tired around 10 or 11 but cant get to sleep if I lay down, I have tried excersize before bed, avoiding caffine, and not smoking before bed, not eating, just eating before bed, over the counter medication, prescription medication. When I try most medication I experiance sleep paralysis. I have only tried the sleep aids, seraquil, ambean, and unisome. I end up staying up all night moving between the couch and the spare bedroom so I dont disturb my Girlfriend. Most days I can get to sleep by 9 or 10 and get about five or six hours of sleep. Some nights I am able to fall asleep in the early evening, 9 or 10 but those nights I only get three or four hours of sleep. Sometimes I dont get any sleep and end up staying awake for a couple days. This has been going on off and on for the last 10 years, and this episode has lasted for the last 6 months making it the longest episode I have ever had, and it is really getting old. The only thing that I have tried that has worked is smoking marjuiana, but for obvious reasons this is not an option that I want to try.

I think there is some problem with your body clock. You must have afixed routine so that such things don't happen. Firstly make youirself busy so that you get some amount of tiredness. With physical and mental exersion you will get good sleep at night.

I suffer from sleep pattern disturbance too. Fortunately, 1/2 tablet of Zolpidem is enough to put me to sleep, but I don't want to be dependent on sleeping pills. Taking half tablet of Melatonin 3 mg has also been helpful. It's best to consult your doctor for prescription drugs that would be effective for your condition. Smoking marijuana will just leave you with more health problems to deal with.

Hi,
Regular exercise is an excellent sleep enhancer, and also proper diet. Try to create an atmosphere in your bedroom that would promote sleep, as well. You can drink something warm, like milk, just before going to bed. It works for me, most of the time. Do some relaxation exercises, too, as often as you can, especially before bedtime. Condition yourself that if you are in the bedroom, you have to sleep, so eliminate things like TV, computer, and the like that would distract the conditioning that you are trying to establish. A good massage can also help before sleeping. And use the power of the mind. Think about sleeping soundly, and it will happen. Our brain is very powerful, you must try it. I hope it helps. Good luck!

There is a possibility that you are suffering from schizophrenia. But since you have mentioned that it is on and off for 10 years now, it could also be a product of stress. To resolve the problem, the root cause of the problem should be identified and treated. I suggest you speak to a counselor and decide what treatment you can take.
