Hello, my name is Jenny Riner, and I suffer from chronic whiplash from an auto accident when I was 15; I am now 28. This produces severe "flash" style migraines that originate from the base of my skull into my eyes. When severe enough, these pounding migraines can cause a "tingling" sensation in my legs and if while walking, effect my gait. Due to two VP shunts in my head due to congenital hydrocephalus, I cannot recieve a normal adjustment from the chiropractor as needed; I had done so 12 years ago and had to have surgery to replace my right shunt due to force put upon my neck; the top of the shunt had been forced into the other direction.

On top of all this madness, I have a stomach ulcer.:cursing: I am constantly taking painkillers (over the counter) to combat these headaches. My doctor was very stern with me about it in the event that I may give myself a bleeding ulcer.

I read about Marinol and what it is composed from and on what the medicine is specifically for, and was just wondering if there have been any prescribed cases for it for people in my situation.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Jenny D. Riner

Hi Jenny. Based on what I've read, the use of Marinol is approved for severe nausea and vomiting which occurs with cancer chemotherapy.

Perhaps you should ask your doctor about pain relievers which would best suit you.

Always had infrequent light-moderate headaches, but in the past 6-8 months or so, Ive had some real whoppers--definite migraines.

I found that Marinol works great on preventing migraines--it expands and loosens up the blood vessels and muscles in my head. Right now, I'm taking just the 2.5's but I think that I'll wind up taking 5's, since the doctors are only allowed to prescribe 2 doses a day. If I switch to the 5's, I think thank I'll be able to stop taking my Oramorph SR's. This week is my first week using Marinol and I've been able to cut back my Oramorph SR from 180 mg. down to 60 mg. A day and I'm free from migraines.

Being a practice manager for a pain/opiate detox medical practice, THC is considered a very good medication for migraine headaches. It is best to rule out underlying causes of the migraine headaches before self medicating however, it is nice to see that medical marijuana becoming acceptable for ailments.

Marinol is quite effective to migraines but I heard that sometimes it tends to cause anxiety and can make one sleepy. Marinol works 70-80% well for migraines and I think it's a good percentage.
