I am a 56 year old female with history of heart attack in 2005 with placement of 2 stents. I am on Atenolol 25 mg. twice daily and Captopril 25 mg. once a day plus one aspirin a day. Recently, when I lay down on my right ear I hear a loud whoosh whooshing. Repositioning my ear doesn't make it go away and it is so loud, I have to turn over on my left side. An RN friend of mine suggested I have an ultrasound of my carotid arteries. Should I be concerned with this? Has anyone else had this?

Dear Marmielindo,

It may be as simple as fluid behind your tympanic membrane (ear drum). This can cause your symptoms. See your physician so he can do an ear examination with an otoscope and prescribe you medications such as antihistamines and antibiiotics.

I highly doubt you are suffering from carotid stenosis, given your symptoms.
