I Have a 4 year old son who has been extremely tired for about the last week. The other night he went to be at 8pm the woke up at 7:30am for 1 hour and then went back to bed and slept until 11pm when i woke him up. i have to fight to wake him up sometime at 12noon. Know he used to be on a very good sleeping schedule 9:30 everynight. But latley he sleeps whenever he wants/ Sometimes he will stay up until 11:30pm . Latley he has been sleeping atleast 12 hours and i have to basically get him out of bed and he doesn't fully wake up for about a half hour. Sometimes he will sleep 14hours maybe 15. He has been a little sick, just runny nose, cough, fever (went away a couple days ago). He has been saying his stomach is hurtiong for about 4 days and yesterday he threw up his food out of no where. Also at night time he gets a little feerish and his ears are bright red.His little brother who he shares a room with had croup. But his cold never got that bad. Im staring think the worst, what if he has someting seriously wrong with him? Could this be a growth spurt? or recovering illness? i know cancers cause fatigue what do you think? The soonest appoitment is the 28th of the month and i cant stand to wait that long. Any help?

Hi,

Im glad you have an appointment with his Dr.for your child. Sorry you couldnt have him seen sooner. If he is still vomiting or has a fever maybe a visit to the emergency room as children can become really sick rather quickly. How does he eat or drink throughout the day, does he feel up to normal activities as a four year old would or feel tired all the time. Many kids I'm sorry to say will stay up until they just can't go anymore and this would even start a cycle of being tired and trouble staying awake when he should. If you are providing the structure of a balanced diet and appropriate rest times and bedtimes for him and you still are having problems he needs to be examined by his pediatrician. You could even call the Dr.'s office and ask for a appointment sooner, if not make the trip to an er. Good Luck,
