Sprain or fracture???

I fell 2 weeks ago. Went to hospital, had x-ray, no obvious breaks but said it was too swollen to tell if fractured. Told me it was sprained but to go to my doc. if it does not get better. My ankle is still swollen, painfull, and I can walk but barely. Should I go back and have it x-rayed again?? I have been told conflicting things, that a bad sprain would/could take several weeks to heal and I have been told that it should be better by now and may be fractured and if I don't get medical care for the fracture, I could have problems later on. How do I tell if it is a bad sprain or fractured???

Did you follow up with your Dr? maybe a good idea and he may re x-ray>

Yes, yesterday we had it x-rayed again because it swelled up again and they put a removeable half cast on it. They said it was not fractured but that a bad sprain can be worse than a break. I have to wear the half cast for two weeks. They said a bad sprain can last as long as 6 to 8 weeks. I can tell you it hurts as bad as a break. I fractured my foot a couple of years ago and it was not nearly as painfull as this sprain. Thank you.:smile:
