View Full Version : Anterior Deltoid missing after humerous surgery

I broke my humerus 2 years ago, looking at the xrays the break was pretty bad. After seeing them the doctor decided to put a cast on my arm only a little past my elbow, not even coming close to where the actually break was (more towards my shoulder). He gave me a sling and insisted that the weight of the cast would bring my bone into place.
Well 2 weeks went by and I went in to get another xray, my arm was still in horrible condition. My doctor seemed a little anxious and nervous and quickly got me into surgery.
The surgery went fine and my bone healed but I seem to be missing my anterior deltoid now. It wasn't very noticeable at first but now I am beginning to work out and its starting to look funny. My doctor said nothing about it, no warnings or anything afterwards, and I am and 100% sure I do not have an anterior deltoid.
Is this normal for surgery's near the shoulder, or is my surgeon/doctor at fault?
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I suggest you to seek consultation to another surgeon.

Its my first time hearing about this kind of problem "anterior deltoid". Maybe its your surgeon's fault have you try consulting a doctor about it? I mean another one.

Wow... I cannot believe this. When I was about 10 years old I broke my left arm up by the shoulder, almost at the growth plate. I work out very heavily, and I have noticed as well that I am missing part of my deltoid.
Because of this, my left pectoral, and back muscles have gotten larger than my right to compensate for the loss... Its not that bad... you really can't tell unless I stand perfectly straight and would point it out to you. The bad part is... that shoulder has felt like "blowing out" sometimes when I bench a lot. I don't like it!! Trust me, but I do not think there is anything that can be done. I saw the sport's trainer at my college and he said that muscles was most likely scar tissue, and will never grow back.
I'm not a doctor... but I'll try to explain these pictures. The right shoulder you can see that it looks normal. My left shoulder is missing two parts of the deloid... and on the right shoulder, those parts are the buldges by the dragons head and front legs... (lol... medical terms!) I don't know what those two parts are called, but I'm sure its quite obvious that something is missing....
Sorry, but if anyone see's these pictures and has a solution, please, let me know!

P.S. Maybe if you post a picture of your shoulder??

You don't have anterior deltioid and posterior deltoid on your left shoulder because of the surgery, but I don't see any scars on your left shoulder. Where is the surgery scars?
Btw, can you raise your left arm STRAIGHTENED above your head without any difficulties?
