Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is linked to obesity and insulin resistance. In fact, there is now some evidence that insulin resistance and excess insulin in the blood may be the cause of polycystic ovary syndrome. This would mean that PCOS is actually a complication of diabetes. Treating the insulin resistance and excess insulin (hyperinsulinemia) is important and should be accompanied by the common treatments for PCOS, namely contraceptives, antiandrogens, progestins, and ovulation inductors.

Hi

Concerning hair...
I was searching through Dr. Joshua’s message board when I came across your post. My daughter is almost 22. She is dark haired, fair skinned, and felt self consciousness with minor facial hair. Although her issue is not to the degree you have expressed. She voiced her concerns with her OB/GYN doctor who offered her “VANIQA” (eflornithine hydrochloride) cream 13.9%. Maybe this will help you too.

In saying that, I’m a 48 year old woman. With age I noticed hair under my chin, (shaved it off as you mention) and my eyebrows, armpits, and leg hair are thinning! I had a hysterectomy two decades ago due to Endometriosis complications and have chalked the hair growth/hair loss issue up to hormonal changes. A nuisance I attend to when needed. There are common jokes out there "among aging women" who now grow facial hair, and yet lose their eyebrows. I believe it is common nuisance we women deal with as we grow older.

Hope this helps a bit
