I am 15 years old and am an intense weight lifter (I lift weights for 1-2hours 5-6 days a week). I have been doing this for several months. I have been taking whey protien shakes and bcaa pills(marketed as A-bomb). Are these supplements helping me gain muscle or are they harmful?

Hi and welcome,

As with anything that proclaims to enhance muscles etc. in a training program I would be skeptical. Is it tested and approved by the FDA. Many of these products are just hoaxes and cost big money and lots have serious health risks. For me I don't take anything just because its marketed for a certain cause. Many of their sights for such products clearly site usually in fine print they are not tested. Your product may be fine but why take the risk. Nothing takes the place of good ole exercise and a well balanced diet and FDA approved vitamins. You could even ask your Dr. on his opinions as well regarding supplements.

Good Luck,

Aren't you too young to lift weights? Why don't you let you muscles develop more before you do that. They also said that it might also affect your height.

whey protein is good for muscle development. but im kinda worried that you're kinda young to drink such supplements. Maybe its wise to consult your doctor and a credible gym instructor about it.

wow..interesting hobby huh?:) how did you hook up with this kind of activity in such a young age?anyway just an advice, you have a long way to go..just patiently wait..your muscles is still developing, and with the right kind of diet you eat, you can achieve the body that you want..don't rely too much on supplements, and make sure you consult it with you dr whenever you want to try some new supplements..

Your too young to be taking supplements. Your body has everything it needs. Just eat good food. Carbs before you work out for energy, like pasta or potatoes. Keep away from sugar and eat brown rice instead of white.

I guess you're way to young to do such thing. Honestly it will slower down your height growth. As what happen to one of my friend. He use to lift weights before and it seems like he's not getting taller after all. :D

The first, and arguably the most popular, supplement is whey protein. It is viewed as one of the most successful in terms of helping a person keep protein in the body and develop bigger muscles. This particular bodybuilder protein supplement works best after a workout, because that is when a body needs protein the most. Whey digests quickly, so this becomes very effective when looking to regain the protein in your body.

At your age they are sure harmful. Your body is still growing and you infringe it with different chemicals.

Right now i am on protein, creatine, no xplode, glutamine and a multivitamin. I was looking to change it up a bit. My goals are to be lean but still build muscle mass. I try to keep them to low doses Ex. one scoop of cell mass post workout. What are the most important supplements?
